Per Profootballtalk.com, former Illini wide receiver Ryan Lankford signed as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts earlier this week.
This is already Lankford’s second NFL contract in his short pro career. He originally signed with the Miami Dolphins last Tuesday, but was waived by the Phins just two days later.
Ryan Lankford will also be reunited with former Illini teammate Hugh Thornton. Thornton was a Third Round pick by the Colts in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Naturally, social media circles were abuzz with the news that one of Illinois top wide receivers was signing with another NFL team.
Here’s some of the tweets sent out to Ryan’s Twitter (@Playmaka3x4) from members of both Illini Nation and Colts Nation:
During his time with the Fighting Illini, Lankford hauled in 70 receptions for 1,014 yards and 7 touchdowns while carrying the ball 13 times for 48 yards and 1 touchdown.
We here at Writing Illini want to congratulate Ryan on his new contract and wish him the best of luck with the Colts! Illini Nation will be watching and wishing you nothing but success on your road to making an impact as a member of the Indianapolis Colts.
