On Wednesday, Tim Beckman and company extended an offer to 2016 pro-style quarterback Jarrett Guarantano. Guarantano is ranked as one of the Top 5 pro-style QBs from the 2016 recruiting class.
Although he’s a 2016 recruit, Illinois is the fifteenth team and sixth Big Ten team to offer at Guarantano. Currently, he has offers from Illinois, Clemson, Ohio State, Tennessee, Arizona State, Boston College, Connecticut, Louisville, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Per 247Sports, the Oradell, New Jersey native is heavily interested in Clemson, Ohio State, and Tennessee.
Right now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball has Jarrett Guarantano playing his college ball in the Big Ten, but not for the Illinois Fighting Illini. The majority (75%) of the experts predict the Buckeyes to land the 2016 recruit while 25% of the experts predict Oklahoma to offer and steal him away.
Less than one month ago, Illinois offered at another 2016 QB in Seth Green. Green and Guarantano are different because Green is a dual-threat quarterback.
It will be interesting to see how Illinois will play the recruiting game with these two recruits moving forward. Would Bill Cubit rather have a Top 10 dual-threat QB or a Top 5 pro-style QB?
The four-star recruit is currently ranked 5th in the state of New Jersey, 3rd among pro-style quarterbacks, and 92nd among 2016 high school recruits by 247Sports.
