On Monday, Illinois’ linebackers coach Mike Ward made a trip from Champaign, Illinois to Toledo, Ohio in order to visit with 2015 wide receiver/cornerback Maxwell McCormick.
Thus far, no teams have offered at the wide receiver/cornerback. However, McCormick is receiving some interest from several programs.
Besides from Illinois, he has gained interest from Bowling Green, Indiana, Kent State, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Purdue, and Toledo.
Maxwell McCormick has also been receiving plenty of visits from coaches in the months of March, April, and May. Since March, the 2015 recruit has hosted coaches from Illinois, Toledo, Miami (OH), Western Michigan, Lehigh, Colgate, Indiana, and Northwestern.
It seems as though most schools are recruiting Maxwell as a wide receiver, but the Fighting Illini might be trying to get him to play cornerback for the Orange & Blue.
Although McCormick seems to be more of a receiver than a cornerback, Illinois could sway him over to their side if they decide to offer.
Illinois definitely needs help on the defensive side of the football. Maxwell McCormick could give the Illini a boost in the secondary while being able to help out in Cubit’s offensive system as well.
In the receiving game, he is very effective on screen passes and could be used both ways if he ends up joining the Fighting Illini.
