On Saturday, the Illinois Fighting Illini won the Sugar Grove Regional and are officially headed to the NCAA Championship in Hutchinson, Kansas.
The Illini trailed UAB by just one shot for most of the regional, but made their move to take the top spot in Round Three.
Illini shot a 295 (+7) on Saturday and were led by Big Ten Player of the Year Brian Campbell. Campbell was #1 on the leader board for most of the regional. He shot an even par (72) on Saturday and finished the regional with a total score of 211.
Illinois saw four of their five golfers in the Sugar Grove Regional finish in the Top 25. Behind Campbell at the top of the list, Thomas Detry finished 11th, Charlie Danielson finished 15th, and Jonathan Hauter finished 25th.
The last Illinois golfer was Alex Burge who moved back from 37th to 53rd after shooting +10 on Saturday.
Illinois is just one of five teams to make the NCAA Championships from the Sugar Grove Regional. The four other schools to make the cut from the Sugar Grove Regional are UAB, Purdue, USC, and Cal.
The NCAA Championships will begin Friday, May 23rd in Hutchinson, Kansas.
