Illinois Fighting Illini Football Recruiting: Illinois Extends Offer Towards Jared Mayden

As of late, the Illinois Fighting Illini have been putting in some much needed early work in on the 2016 recruiting class. On Monday, the Illini continued that hard work by extending an offer towards 2016 cornerback Jared Mayden.

Illinois is the sixteenth team and third Big Ten team to offer at the Sachse, Texas native.

Per 247Sports, Mayden is most interested in the Texas Longhorns, but is also heavily interested in the Baylor Bears, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and Texas A&M Aggies.

Right now, the majority of the experts on the 247Sports Crystal Ball do not have Jared Mayden leaving the state of Texas one way or another.

75% of the experts have Mayden staying home in Texas with those experts being split down the middle between Baylor and Texas.

Jared Mayden would definitely be a quality pickup for the Fighting Illini. However, a recruit like Mayden isn’t going to come to a sub-par program.

Tim Beckman and Illinois will need to win games in 2014 and 2015 in order to convince the Top 10 CB to come take his talents to Champaign.

The four-star recruit is currently ranked 15th in the state of Texas, 6th among cornerbacks, and 117th among 2016 high school recruits by 247Sports.
