As of late, the Illinois Fighting Illini have been putting in some much needed early work in on the 2016 recruiting class. On Monday, the Illini continued that hard work by extending an offer towards 2016 wide receiver/returner Devin Duvernay.
Illinois is just the eighteenth team and third Big Ten team to offer at Duvernay. So far, the Texas receiver has offers from Illinois, Baylor, Clemson, Colorado State, Kansas, Nebraska, Northern Colorado, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon State, San Diego State, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UCLA, and Wisconsin.
Right now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball doesn’t have the Sachse, Texas native leaving his home state. The majority (75%) of the recruiting experts predict him to commit to the Texas Longhorns.
Devin Duvernay would definitely be a quality pickup for the Fighting Illini. However, a recruit like Duvernay isn’t going to come to a sub-par program.
Tim Beckman and Illinois will need to win games in 2014 and 2015 in order to convince the Top 50 prospect to come take his talents to Champaign.
The five-star recruit is currently ranked 8th in the state of Texas, 3rd among wide receivers, and 39th among 2016 high school recruits by 247Sports.
