After an amazing week of baseball, Illinois junior Casey Fletcher was recognized both nationally and by the Big Ten conference on Tuesday.
Fletcher’s great play helped him headline the Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week list from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. He was also named a Week 12 Top Performer on NCAA.com along with being selected as the Big Ten Player of the Week.
Last week, Fletcher went 8-for-17 from the plate (.471 avg) while recording four home runs, 10 RBIs, a 1.353 slugging percentage, and two walk-off hits.
Illinois went 4-0 this past week and were able to clinch a spot in the Big Ten Tournament with their sweep of the Michigan State Spartans at Illinois Field.
According to fightingillini.com, “Fletcher is the second Illini to garner the Big Ten Player of the Week award this season” (Ryan Nagle on March 3rd).
So far this season, the Fighting Illini have seen five Big Ten conference honors come their way this past season (two Players of the Week, two Pitchers of the Week, and one Freshman of the Week).
The Fighting Illini will play next on May 9th as they start up a three-game series with the Iowa Hawkeyes on May 9th in Iowa City.
