Illinois Fighting Illini Football Recruiting: Michael Onwenu Uniofficially Visits the Fighting Illini

On Saturday, the Illinois Fighting Illini played host to numerous football recruits from both the 2015 and 2016 recruiting classes. One of those recruits was 2016 defensive tackle Micheal Onwenu.

Onwenu has yet to see that first offer come rolling through the door. However, he has been receiving interest from three Big Ten schools.

Those schools are the Illinois Fighting Illini, Michigan Wolverines, and Michigan State Spartans.

Although he is not one of the top ranked recruits from the Class of 2016, Michael Onwenu could be a quality commitment for Tim Beckman and company. This is because, at 6’2″, 310 pounds, Onwenu contains the size and frame that Coach Beckman is looking for in a defensive tackle.

It will also be interesting to see how the Illinois Fighting Illini choose to recruit Michael Onwenu. Although he is listed as a defensive tackle, he also played at the offensive tackle position for Cass Technical in 2013.

The question is: Will Coach Beckman choose to recruit him as a DT or an OT?
