The Illinois Fighting Illini continue to work hard on their 2015 recruiting class by targeting some of the top talent from across the country. This time, they did so by extending an offer to tight end Jake Pickard. Pickard is one of the Top 50 TEs from the 2015 class as well as from the state of New Jersey.
Illinois is just the tenth team and fourth Big Ten team to offer at the Millburn native. So far, he has offers from Illinois, Louisville, Purdue, Virginia, Rutgers, Boston College, Cincinnati, Nebraska, Syracuse, and Temple.
Per 247Sports, Pickard is heavily interested in Louisville, Purdue, Rutgers, and Virginia along which several teams who haven’t sent him an offer. These teams include: Colorado, Maryland, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, and Penn State.
Right now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball has the Jersey tight end playing football in the Big Ten, but not with the Fighting Illini. Eight of the thirteen experts are predicting the Millburn recruit to give his verbal to the Purdue Boilermakers.
At 6’6″, Jake Pickard has an excellent frame with a great catch radius and the ability to create mismatches. Besides that, Pickard will need some improvements at the college level.
He will need to bulk up as his size is a little small, and he doesn’t have the best hands for a tight end with his offensive potential.
Pickard is planning on hosting several college coaches later this month. Illinois’ Greg Colby will visit the New Jersey recruit on May 13th, Penn State’s Ricky Rahne and Sean Spencer will visit him on May 15th, and Ohio State’s Ed Warinner will make a visit on May 16th.
The three-star recruit is currently ranked 29th in the state of New Jersey, 45th among tight ends, and 1,326th among 2015 high school recruits by 247Sports.
