On Wednesday, the Illinois Fighting Illini extended an offer towards the top 2015 recruit from the state of Missouri in point guard Jimmy Whitt. On top of being the best recruit from Missouri, Whitt is also in the Top 25 among point guards from the entire Class of 2015.
Jimmy Whitt has been on the radar of several basketball programs from across the nation as he currently holds offers from 18 teams.
These teams include: Illinois, Arkansas, Colorado, Creighton, Iowa, Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU, South Florida, Tulsa, Wake Forest, Wichita State, Wisconsin, and Xavier.
Right now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball has the Columbia native giving his commitment to either Arkansas or Kansas (have not offer). Five of the six recruiting experts are predicting him to give his commitment to the Razorbacks when it’s all said and done.
There’s no doubt that the #1 point guard on Coach Groce’s Big Broad for the 2015 class is Stevenson PG Jalen Brunson. However, it’s good to have a back-up plan.
The best part of Whitt’s game has to be his scoring ability. He’s a natural scorer who has the ability to create his own shot from anywhere on the floor.
Everything from his three’s to his penetration is exactly what Coach Groce should be looking for in a future Illinois point guard. If Brunson decides to not commit to the Illini, Jimmy Whitt should be the guy that the Illini focus most of their attention on instead.
The four-star recruit is currently ranked 1st in the state of Missouri, 25th among point guards, and 94th among 2015 high school recruits by 247Sports.
