For once, Tim Beckman and the Illinois Fighting Illini football players won’t be the only ones that get to have some fun on the Memorial Stadium turf on a Saturday.
According to the official release from fightingillini.com, fans are invited to join the players and coaches this Saturday for Family Fun Fest followed directly by a special showing of the Lego Movie on the Memorial Stadium Jumbotron. There is no charge to attend either of these experiences.
Here’s an excerpt explaining exactly what will take place from the official release:
“CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The University of Illinois football team and the UI Division of Intercollegiate Athletics will host a fun-filled evening at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, May 3. Head football coach Tim Beckman and the Fighting Illini football team will kick things off by hosting the annual Football Family Fun Fest on the field at Memorial Stadium from 3:30-5 p.m. Then at approximately 6 p.m., the DIA will host the first-ever Movie Night at Memorial Stadium, featuring a showing of a family-friendly movie on the giant 3,400-square foot jumbotron.
At Football Family Fun Fest, fans will be able to meet and collect autographs from the coaching staff and players, take photos on the playing field and participate in a variety of fun activities with Fighting Illini players. Football drills and competitions will be available for youngsters age 13 and under in addition to inflatable games like the bounce house, obstacle course and giant slide.
After the conclusion of Fun Fest, fans and families are invited to stay for the inaugural Movie Night at Memorial Stadium. Fans are encouraged to bring their own food, drinks* and blankets onto the field to watch a movie on the Memorial Stadium video board. Hot dogs, popcorn, Dippin’ Dots and drinks will be available for purchase at the concession stands in the Great West Hall. Lawn chairs will not be allowed on the field, but fans will be allowed to sit in the stands on the west side of the stadium as an alternative to watching from the field.”
The idea of a family atmosphere is pervading every aspect of the program, and events like this only serve to further that goal. If you have a chance to make it out to Champaign-Urbana this weekend to take in one, or both, of these unique experiences I’d highly suggest doing so.
After all, we are all a part of this Fighting Illini Family. So, why not spend some time getting know as many members of that family as you can while having a good time in the process?
