Illinois Fighting Illini Basketball: 2013-14 Report Card – Jon Ekey

OVERALL GRADE: B

KEY STATS
Points Per Game: 7.3 (4th on the team)
Field Goal Percentage: 40.6% (7th)
Three Point Percentage: 36.6% (3rd)
Rebounds Per Game: 4.8 (3rd)

In his lone season with the Illinois Fighting Illini, forward Jon Ekey was able to come up big quite a bit. He began the season as a starter for Coach Groce, but saw his role change when Kendrick Nunn and Malcolm Hill were both inserted into the starting lineup.

Did that faze Ekey? Not at all. He might not have been a consistent double-digit scorer, but he had his fair share of big moments. His biggest moment of his senior season would have to be his game-winning three on the road to beat Iowa to end the regular season.

When looking back at the season as a whole, did Jon Ekey perform as expected? Yes.

Ekey was a slightly better version than former Illini Tyler Griffey. Don’t think so? Compare the stats…

Jon Ekey wasn’t with the Fighting Illini for long, but that doesn’t mean his time with the team wasn’t appreciated. In the end, he did exactly what was expected of him.
