On Wednesday night, 2015 power forward Elijah Thomas cut his list of potential teams down to ten, and the Illinois Fighting Illini made the cut!
The ten teams still left in the running for the Lancaster recruit are: Florida, Illinois, Memphis, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Oregon, SMU, Texas, UNLV and USC.
Many of the recruiting experts on the 247Sports Crystal Ball are leaning towards Thomas committing to either SMU or Oklahoma State, but there seems to be a late push for the Baylor Bears to take their in-state target.
The Fighting Illini are going to lose five seniors at the conclusion of next season. One of those seniors will be the 6’11” center Nnanna Egwu.
Because of that fact, a commitment from Elijah Thomas would be huge for the Illini.
Thomas could easily step in and fill the starting position at the 5 for the Illini. He’s tall, strong, and a force to be reckoned with in the paint.
However, Illini fans might have to wait a year for a decision from Elijah Thomas.
According to Derek Piper at Illini247, Thomas “is planning to take some official visits during the next college basketball season, and he will likely announce his decision next spring.”
The five-star recruit is currently ranked 1st in the state of Texas, 4th among power forwards, and 11th nationally among 2015 high school recruits by 247Sports.
