On Friday, the Illinois Fighting Illini were just one of three teams to visit 2015 point guard Jalen Brunson as head coach John Groce and assistant coach Paris Parham made a trip to Lincolnshire, Illinois. Along with Illinois, both Michigan State and Indiana had coaches visit the young Stevenson guard.
Brunson has been on the radar of numerous basketball programs from across the nation as he currently holds offers from 14 teams.
However, the Illinois native seems to be heavily interested in Kansas, Michigan, and Michigan State at this point in time.
Currently, the majority of the recruiting experts on the 247Sports Crystal Ball favor Brunson picking the Michigan Wolverines.
When it comes down to Brunson’s strengths, the Adlai Stevenson point guard is a true point guard who can run the court, shoot the 3, and make open court passes. The only “knocks” against him are his size, strength, and overall athleticism.
According to ESPN, their scouting report states that the bottom line on Jalen Brunson is:
Brunson is a true point guard that has a feel for the game and a terrific basketball IQ. He is a shot maker that can also get teammates involved. Just a very good all around point guard with terrific upside. Brunson’s game is very similar to his fathers Temple great and NBA player Rick Brunson.
John Groce has done good things with the Class of 2015 already, especially in the state of Illinois. He has been able to snatch up both D.J. Williams (3rd in state of IL) and Aaron Jordan (5th in state of IL) and is looking for more.
Brunson might be iffy about the Illini at this moment, but he might be a hard lean if Groce can lock up St. Rita SG Charles Matthews (1st in state of IL) as an Illinois commit to go along with Jordan and Roberts.
The four-star recruit is currently ranked 2nd in the state of Illinois, 6th among point guards, and 30th among 2015 high school recruits by 247Sports.
