Illinois Fighting Illini Football Recruiting: 2015 QB Jimmy Fitzgerald Verbally Commits to Illinois

The Illinois Fighting Illini Class of 2015 received a rather large commitment today with the following announcement:

According to 247Sports, Jimmy Fitzgerald is a 6’3″, 205 pound, 3 star pro-style quarterback recruit. Rivals.com lists him as a 3 star recruit, and they also list him as the 10th best player in the state of Illinois. Getting top kids to stay in state and represent the Illini has been a mission statement for the program for quite some time.

It’s nice to see a guy like Fitzgerald take the message to heart and decide to represent Illinois. Undoubtedly, he will become a valuable asset for the Illini as they try to keep more of the top talent in the state of Illinois home in the class of 2015.

Fitzgerald chose Illinois over offers from Yale, Harvard, Western Michigan, and Florida International. He also had interest from Duke, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Northwestern, and Notre Dame.

If you’d like to see what the Illini are going to get in a couple of years, take a minute to check out his full season highlights from his junior year on hudl.

From his video, he appears to have the ability to scramble when needed, and can make most every throw necessary even when he’s on the run. Fitzgerald is a very solid pickup without a doubt. Well done, Bill Cubit and company!
