On Wednesday, head coach Tim Beckman made the announcement that the Illinois Fighting Illini signed four JUCO athletes and five high school athletes who will finish school early and enroll at Illinois in January 2014.

The four JUCO recruits to sign their national letter of intent with the Illini were WR Geronimo Allison, DB Tyree Stone-Davis, WR Tyrin Stone-Davis, and DL Joe Fotu.

The five high school recruits to come to Illinois early are QB Chayce Crouch, OL Peter Cvijanovic, WR Mike Dudek, TE Jordan Frazier, and DL Paul James III.

Per fightingillini.com, Beckman had this to say about the signing of nine new recruits to Illinois:

We are extremely pleased to announce the addition of these nine young men to the Fighting Illini football family. The five young men who dedicated themselves in earning their high school diploma in time to join us in the spring will gain tremendous experience with our team. Add in several junior college transfers, and we continue to improve the depth of this football team. Obviously, we are filling several holes with the addition of three receivers and a tight end in this early group, along with three quality defensive players. All of these players will be given the opportunity to compete for playing time next fall.”

Tim Beckman’s plan since he came to Illinois was to add depth to the team by recruiting JUCO players.

Illinois will need recruits to replace the wide receivers that the team will be losing and defensive recruits to strengthen the performance and that’s what they got today. All four of the JUCO players will have three seasons with the Fighting Illini.

The Stone-Davis brothers are expected to start in 2014 while Allison and Fotu are expected to make their way into the starting role by 2015.

All five of the high school recruits will have four seasons with the Fighting Illini. However, with Aaron Bailey and Wes Lunt having three years left with the Fighting Illini, it will be interesting to see him Beckman and Cubit decide to redshirt Chayce Crouch for 2014.
