On Wednesday, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced their All-Americans for the 2013 season.
Per fightingillini.com, the Illinois Fighting Illini saw two of their players receive honors as sophomore Jocelynn Birks was named to the Division I All-America Third Team and senior libero Jennifer Beltran was named an All-America Honorable Mention.
Birks is the 12th Illinois player and first since 2011 to earn AVCA All-America honors. As a sophomore, she racked up 500 kills, 278 digs, 76 blocks, 28 aces and 20 assists in 2013 and accounted for 570 of Illinois’ points this season. Birks also finished the year ranked 40th in the nation in kills per set and 38th in the nation in points.
The third team All-American honor is Birks’ first in her young college career.
As for Beltran, she ends her career with the Orange & Blue on a high note. The senior libero earned her first career All-America Honorable Mention and was named to the AVCA All-Northeast Region team this past postseason.
Beltran recorded 526 digs in her senior season which included ten 20-dig games. She finished the year ranked third in the Big Ten in digs per set and became Illinois’ all-time career digs leader in October of this season.
The Big Ten as a whole saw thirteen players named to all of the AVCA All-American teams.
