Illinois Fighting Illini Football Recruiting: Tre Watson Commits Following Weekend Visit

After officially visiting Champaign this weekend, JUCO outside linebacker Tre Watson gave Tim Beckman and the Illinois Fighting Illini his verbal commitment.

Illinois was able to gain Watson’s commitment over Air Force, Eastern Michigan, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Furman, Georgia State, Holy Cross, UMass, Middle Tennessee State, South Florida, and Central Florida.

It should come as no surprise to most people that Watson decided to play for Tim Beckman because 88% of the recruiting experts on the 247Sports Crystal Ball predicted the Florida native to commit to the Orange & Blue.

This comitment by Watson is a very solid commitment for the Fighting Illini. The main reason why is because the Illini defense was less-than-stellar this past season and need some major help on that side of the football. Another reason is because Watson fits Tim Beckman’s recruiting plan by adding depth to the team by recruiting JUCO players.

As a senior, Watson registered 90 tackles, 8.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and an interception.

Tre Watson becomes the fifteenth commitment for Tim Beckman and company, and is also the fourth JUCO commit as well.

The three-star recruit is currently ranked 261st in the state of Florida, 128th among outside linebackers, and 1,797 among 2014 JUCO recruits by 247Sports.
