Just like they did last weekend, the Illinois Fighting Illini played host to several recruits as they continue to hit the recruiting trail hard in hopes of having having a successful 2014 Signing Day.
This weekend, Tim Beckman and company hosted twelve JUCO recruits that included: DE Jonathon Johnson, DT Glen Antoine, DT Daniel Cage, RB Matt Domer, OT JB Butler, CB Isaiah Wharton, DT Jacky Dezir, OLB Carroll Phillips, S Matthew Dash, and OLB Tre Watson.
Three of the JUCO recruits who visited Champaign this weekend have committed to either the Illini or another team. Matt Domer gave Illinois his verbal back in July, and Glen Antoine came to town as an Idaho commit while Jonathon Johnson came as an Arizona State commit.
Although Johnson and Antoine have verbally committed to different schools, they are still keeping an open mind when it comes to Tim Beckman and his team. Illinois is hoping that both Johnson and Antoine decide to do what former Weber State commit Isaiah Wharton did just last month and decommit.
As two of the Top 250 JUCO recruits from the Class of 2014, it’s a no brainer that either recruit would be a huge pickup for the Fighting Illini.
Daniel Cage is another JUCO recruit that Illinois needed to impress this weekend. The Ohio native currently is heavily interested in Louisville and Michigan State, but is also interested in Illinois and Cincinnati.
For a defense that looked bad in 2013, Illinois needs all the help it can get from the recruiting game.
Let’s hope that Beckman and the Illini staff were able to impress their JUCO guests this weekend in order to get their commitment to the Orange & Blue. Tre Watson was impressed and gave Illinois his verbal commitment before heading home for Florida on Sunday.
