With no more football to be played in 2013 for the Illinois Fighting Illini, all that’s left for head coach Tim Beckman and his staff to do is to hit the recruiting trail. This Tuesday, Beckman and the Illini did so by extending an offer to one of the top 50 JUCO recruits from the Class of 2014 in defensive end Dalyou Pierson.
As of now, the ’14 recruit has received offers from the California Golden Bears (offered on Tuesday as well), Arizona Wildcats, Colorado State Rams, Fresno State Bulldogs, Illinois Fighting Illini, and Iowa State Cyclones.
Out of those offers, Pierson is being seen as a California or ISU lean. However, the recruiting experts are seeing him as move of a lean towards the Golden Bears (100% of votes to Cal on 247Sports Crystal Ball).
Dalyou Pierson would be a big pickup for the Fighting Illini (if they can get the commitment). This is because Pierson fits the JUCO recruiting plan that Beckman showed in his first recruiting class at Illinois.
Plus, after the dismal season for the Illini defense in 2013, Pierson could be a recruit that could help Illinois from day one in 2014.
The three-star recruit is currently ranked 9th in the state of California, 1st among weak-side defensive ends, and 39th among 2014 JUCO recruits by 247Sports.
