Here’s a look at how some former Illinois Fighting Illini players did this past weekend in the NFL. Before we get to the list, I should mention the Kansas City Chiefs game. After catching three passes in the loss to Denver, A.J. Jenkins did not catch a single pass this weekend against the Washington Redskins. Jenkins has only caught five passes since becoming a member of the Chiefs. Her
Here’s a look at the Fighting Illini who did some things this week:
Whitney Mercilius: The Houston linebacker was on the field a lot in the Thursday Night Football loss to Jacksonville. He only was able to rack up two tackles in the game.
Alan Ball: On the other side of the coin on Thursday Night Football, Ball was able to do some quality things for the Jags. In the Thursday night win, he recorded four total tackles and deflected one pass.
Vontae Davis: The Indy defensive back had a very tough assignment in keeping Andy Dalton and the Cincy offense in check on Sunday. Davis recorded only two tackles and deflected a single pass in the loss to the Bengals.
Michael Buchanan: In a game that came down to the very last second, the New England Patriots were able to hold off the upset Browns. Illini rookie Buchanan picked up a single tackle for the Pats who hang on the the 2nd seed in the AFC.
Akeem Spence: From one Illini rookie to another, Akeem Spence had a very nice game in the Bucs’ win over the Buffalo Bills. He recorded two total tackles and one stuff in the game.
Rashard Mendenhall: In a huge 20 point victory over the St. Louis Rams, Rashad Mendenhall have a quality 17 carries this weekend. He ran the ball for 41 yards (long of 11 yards) and scored one touchdown in the game.
Steve Weatherford: Weatherford and his ridiculous abs went to San Diego for a match-up with the Chargers. The Giants lost the game by the tune of 37-14. Weatherford had three punts for 141 yards and one of those punts was in the 20.
Corey Liuget: On the other side of that game, the San Diego defensive came to play against New York. On the Chargers’ defensive line, Liuget recorded three tackles and half a sack in the win.
Pierre Thomas: In the lights of primetime, the New Orleans Saints defeated the Carolina Panthers. Running back Pierre Thomas ran the ball seven times for fourteen yards and caught four passes for fourteen yards.
