1) Trae Golden, G: There’s no doubt that one of the big leaders on this Georgia Tech team is guard Trae Golden. After playing three season at Tennessee, Golden has come over the the Yellow Jackets and made his impact known. So far this season, Golden is leading the team in points per game (13.5) and assists per game (2.4). Despite scoring only nine points in the team’s last loss to St. John’s, the senior guard has scored in double figures in every game this season and scored team-high 18 points against in-state rival Georgia.
2) Daniel Miller, C: The other senior leader on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets is Daniel Miller. In his four season with the team, Miller is shooting better, scoring more points per game, and grabbing more rebounds per game. Although he is averaging 10.3 points per game, Miller hasn’t hit double figures in GT’s last three games. Tonight against the Illinois Fighting Illini, the senior forward will be a huge help for the Yellow Jackets on the boards. So far this season, Miller is averaging 8.1 rebounds per game and was able to pull down 12 rebounds in the team’s loss to St. John’s.
3) Robert Carter, Jr., F: The other player that the Illini will need to box out when it comes to crashing the boards would be Robert Carter, Jr. Carter, Jr. is leading the team in rebounding thus far in 2013 with 9.5 rebounds per game. The sophomore forward had a nice streak of games with double-digit boards, but only grabbed five in the loss to St. John’s. On top of rebounding Carter, Jr. might be Rayvonte Rice’s arch nemesis in tonight’s game. Carter has the potential to throw a “block party” in the paint and could cause havoc for Rice and the Illini in the paint. In the nine point victory over Georgia, Carter reject a total of three Bulldog shots.
