Illinois v.s. Ohio State: A History

The Illinois Fighting Illini and Ohio State Buckeyes will continue their Big Ten Conference schedule Saturday morning in Champaign. Each team is at the opposite ends of the spectrum with OSU being undefeated in Big Ten play and the Illini being winless in Big Ten play.

This Saturday’s game will be the 100th meeting between the Fighting Illini and the Buckeyes with the first game dating back to 1902. OSU has won the last nine meeting between the two teams in Champaign and Illinois hasn’t defeated Ohio State at home since 1991.

Illinois’ last win over the Buckeyes came in 2007 by the score of 28-21. The Fighting Illini came into the game at 7-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten. On the other side, Ohio State came into the game as the #1 team in the nation with a 10-0 overall record.

The Illini were able to ride the arm of quarterback Juice Williams who threw for 140 yards and four touchdowns. Illini running back Rashard Mendenhall also ran for 88 yards on 26 carries.

Since then, the Buckeyes have owned the series between the two teams. OSU has beaten Illinois in five straight meetings and have outscored the Illini 153 to 21.

This will be Tim Beckman’s third game against Ohio State. He is 0-3 all-time with one meeting at Illinois and two meetings at Toledo.

Ohio State leads the overall series 65-30-4.
