Illinois Football Recruiting: Isaiah Wharton Decommits From Weber State, Could Commit to Illinois

Mandatory Credit: Matthew O

This past weekend, 2014 cornerback Isaiah Wharton decided to decommit from the Weber State Wildcats. The young recruits decision came just one day after he received an offer from Tim Beckman and the Illinois Fighting Illini.

It looks as if the recruiting experts are expecting Wharton to jump over to the Illini and not re-commit to the Wildcats. All eight of the experts on the 247Sports Crystal Ball believe that the Fighting Illin will land the Florida recruit.

Standing at 6’1″, Wharton shows good length on the football field and accompanies that with good instincts, ball skills, and reactive quickness. However, the young 2014 CB have to work on some skills at the next level.

His weakest skills have to be his tackling ability and recovery speed. Chances are that Wharton will not catch up if a wide receiver blows past him off the line. If he can improve those two area of his play along with how he changed directions, then Isaiah Wharton could have great potential at the college level.

Wharton plans to visit Champaign on December 6th. It might be safe to say that head coach Tim Beckman and defensive coordinator Tim Banks (main recruiter of Wharton) could get the young CB to commit to the Illini that weekend.

The two-star recruit is currently ranked 295th in the state of Florida and 170th among cornerbacks in the 2014 class by 247Sports.
