Illinois V.S. Wisconsin: Badgers Lead Illini 21-0 After 1st Quarter

Mandatory Credit: Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

After a much needed bye week, the Illinois Fighting Illini are back in action today against the #25 Wisconsin Badgers, and the Badgers lead the Illini 21-0 at the end of the 1st quarter.

The Illinois offense has looked stale for most of the first quarter before picking this up towards the end of the quarter. Quarterback Nathan Scheelhasse threw for only 37 yards on five completions. Scheelhaase also had a key fumble in the quarter that gave Wisconsin the ball and set up their third touchdown.

On the other hand, the Wisconsin offense has looked very good to start the game. The Badgers were able to score three touchdowns on their first three drives on the contest. James White and Melvin Gordon combined for the first two scores before Jowl Stave found Brian Wozniak  for score number 3.

Heading into this week, Gordon was the main concern of many Illini fans and he is proving why after one quarter. On top of his one rushing touchdown, he has racked up 80 yards and is averaging 14 yards per carry.
