Illinois came in to their game against Nebraska riding a 14 game Big Ten losing streak. With a high scoring offense seemingly on the Illini’s side coming in to this game there was an undercurrent of thought throughout Illini Nation, and even a little nationally, that there might actually be a chance for an upset.

Unfortunately for Illini fans, this sentiment would not be realized today in Lincoln as the Fighting Illini extended their Big Ten losing streak to 15 while falling to the Cornhuskers by a final count of 39-19.
The story of today’s game was Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah, who rushed for 2 touchdowns and a career high 225 yards on 20 carries. There wasn’t much the Illinois defense could do to stop Abdullah, as they seemingly missed tackle after tackle throughout the entire game.
The best performances of the game for Illinois came from Josh Ferguson and Jonathan Brown.
Ferguson carried the ball 19 times for 114 yards and 1 TD. He also led Illinois in receiving by hauling in 8 passes for 82 yards.
Brown finished the game with 13 total tackles including 4 tackles for loss.
Illinois will take the week off and then will look to bottle up the explosive Wisconsin Badger running game on October 19th at Memorial Stadium in a 7:00 pm CST contest.
