Illinois Football: Live Thread For Nebraska Game

There are 60,670 seats at Memorial Stadium. Every home game, Illini faithful fill the stands to be part of the “home game” experience. They hi-five with fellow fans when it goes right and console each other when it goes wrong. For the rest of us not in attendance, we do it virtually. Here. Welcome to the Illinois Fighting Illini Live Game Thread.

After coming off a 50-14 win over Miami (OH) last weekend, the Illinoi Fighting Illini set their sights on their first Big Ten foe of the season as the team travels to Lincoln, Nebraska for a showdown with the Cornhuskers. Nebraska is coming off of a bye week and will be led by true freshman Tommy Armstrong Jr. while Taylor Martinez nurses a turf toe injury. If the Illini can pull off the upset, it will be the first conference win for Tim Beckman as head coach of the Illini.

For those of us watching at home, we have the Live Thread. Discuss every play, in real time, as it happens with your favorite Writing Illini writers and fellow Illini fans.

If you can’t make it to the game in person, this is the place to be.

Scroll down to join the action.

Enjoy the game, and GO ILLINI!

10:40 Update: The Illini are going with the white jersey/white pants combination with the orange helmet in the picture above today for their game against the Huskers. Early reports indicate that it’s windy today in Lincoln. BTN is reporting a 49 degree temperature at kickoff, but the radar appears to show no rain. The wind could cause problems with both teams passing attacks, and if this turns into a rush game Nebraska should be heavily favored.

Hello all! It’s Game Day in Lincoln and we are rapidly closing in on kickoff. I will be here all day watching and chatting so feel free to leave any comments. I also just updated the main story above with a weather and uniform note. Enjoy the game!

For those that don’t know, I am the Co-Editor for this website…probably should have made that clear since my username isn’t just my name.

Does anyone have any predictions for today’s game?

  • @RPKraemer

BTN Analysts Gerry DiNardo and Howard Griffith both took Nebraska in this one.

  • Rees Woodcock

Nebraska D looking solid on the Illini’s first offensive possession. Illini having troubles with the Nebraska O. Not a great start.

    • @RPKraemer

Randy Gregory wreaking havoc on that first series.

  • Rees Woodcock

Illini need to wake up or this could get ugly

    • @RPKraemer

They have to score and keep up or this is going to be a laugher.

  • @RPKraemer

Josh Ferguson is doing his best to keep Illinois in this game. You have to think the Husker D will adjust and stack the box soon. Once they do it’s time the Illini go deep in play action.

  • @RPKraemer

The Illini are on the board with a 38 yard Zalewski FG! It’s about time gentlemen!

  • @RPKraemer

    Someone cue the Safety Dance!

  • @RPKraemer

The offense looks pretty stagnant today. It’s fairly clear they are trying to implement a short play offense to try and keep the Huskers off the field offensively. So far, it isn’t working.

  • @RPKraemer

Here we go in the 2nd half. Time for the Illini to wake up offensively and play their game.

    • Rees Woodcock

They need to wake on both sides

  • @RPKraemer

A touchdown and now a 3 and out on defense? Are the Illini finally waking up?

  • @RPKraemer

That was an amazing catch by Bell. Kudos when they are due.

  • @RPKraemer

While I am doling out kudos, Ameer Abdullah deserves them as well. Career high in rushing yards in a single game.
