On Wednesday, Tim Beckman and the Illinois Fighting Illini extended an offer to one of the top 200 recruits from the Class of 2015 in running back/safety Marquise Doherty. Doherty is also on of the top 5 recruits from the state of Missouri.
As of now, the young athlete has received early offers from the Missouri Tigers, Illinois Fighting Illini, and Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Marquise Doherty can help the Fighting Illini at either the safety or running back position.
As a safety, he shows great instincts on the field and can follow the quarterback’s eyes in order to pick off the football.
Also, he has exceptional skills in returning interceptions because of his moves to make opponents miss as a running back.
When it comes to Doherty at the RB position, it looks like he could fit the Bill Cubit offense nicely. This is because the young Kansas City native is very good when it comes to screen passes. When watching his film, it’s hard to see his play on screens and not think of Josh Ferguson for the Fighting Illini.
The four-star recruit is currently ranked 5th in the state of Missouri, 16th among athletes, and 193rd among 2014 high school recruits by 247Sports.
