Today during an unofficial visit to Champaign, 2014 power forward Leron Black gave head coach John Groce his verbally commitment to the Illinois Fighting Illini. Black is the 6th best power forward from the 2014 class and is one of the most coveted recruits from the state of Tennessee.
The other teams that offered at the Memephis, TN native, but did not get his commitment were the Tennessee Volunteers, Indiana Hoosiers, Baylor Bears, Connecticut Huskies, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Kansas Jayhawks, Louisville Cardinals, Memphis Tigers, Misouri Tigers, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Ohio State Buckeyes, Ole Miss Rebels, UCLA Bruins, and Vanderbilt Commodores.
It should come as no surprise that Black chose to give his commitment to John Groce because 26 of the 27 recruiting experts on 247Sports’ Crystal Ball picked the Illini to gain his commitment.
Black is an athletic PF with a high motor that can rebound and defend quite well.
His size might not be the best among other 2014 PFs, but he can still score from either the high or low post.
The one thing the Illinois coaching staff will need to help Leron Black develop is a better nack for passing the basketball.
Black is the second 2014 recruit to commit for the Illini, and joins in-state PF Michael Finke in that category.
With the commitment from Leron Black, Illinois has moved up 33 spots to 15th overall on the 247Sports 2014 Team Rankings.
The four-star recruit is currently ranked 2nd in the state of Tennessee, 6th among power forwards, and 38th among 2014 high school recruits by 247Sports.
