Illinois V.S. Southern Illinois: Illini Lead Salukis 39-24 After Third Quarter

After coming out of the halftime locker rooms, the Illinois Fighting Illini were looking to continue their dominating play against the Southern Illinois Salukis.

However, things started off a little rough for the Illini as senior quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase threw an interception to Calvin Belts on his first throw of the second half.

Southern Illinois went on to score a touchdown on a three play drive as Kory Faulkner completed the TD pass to senior fullback Rik Hicks.

Illinois would answer though on their next drive. Scheelhaase led the Fighting Illini down the field, but it was true freshman quarterback Aaron Bailey who would score the touchdown for the Illini on a 2 yard QB keeper.

The kick return game also got going for Illinois in the third.

After a SIU field goal, Illinois’ V’Angelo Bentley took a kick return 100 yards for a touchdown to put the Illini up 39-17.

Southern Illinois would answer the Fighting Illini on a touchdown pass from Faulkner to John Lantz to cut the lead to 15.

Nathan Scheelhaase will look for a big fourth quarter as he tries to set a single game passing record for the Illini today.
