On Sunday, Tim Beckman and the Illinois Fighting Illini extended an offer to one of the top 50 running backs from the Class of 2015 in RB Trai Sharp. On the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Sharp is a three-star running back and is ranked 426th overall among 2015 recruits.
As of now, the young running back has received early offers from the Appalachian State Mountaineers, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Illinois Fighting Illini, and Purdue Boilermakers.
Its still early, but it seems like the Illini are behind the 8-ball when it comes to Sharp’s recruitment.
That’s because the Carrboro, NC native is heavily interested in the North Carolina Tar Heels. However, the Tar Heels have yet to extend him an offer.
Trai Sharp might not be the fastest running back in the nation, but he is very smart of the football field. He uses his football knowledge to recognize exactly when to hit holes, and is not easy to take down once he gets going.
Sharp can also line up on offense as a wide receiver or can be used on special teams as a punt returner.
