It was announced today that the Illinois Fighting Illini will play five scheduled matches live on the Big Ten Network this season. Along with their already five scheduled matches, Illinois has the potential to pick up additional matches in November and in the NCAA Tournament.
Illinois’ five televised matches makes them one of four Big Ten teams with a conference-best five BTN matches. The only team with more televised games this season is the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Nittany Lions have five games on the BTN, but also have two matches on ESPN2.
Illinois finished last season with a 14-16 overall record, and will look to improve their record this season. This offseason, the Fighting Illini received 49 votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association preseason top 25 rankings (four spots out of the top 25).
The Illinois Fighting Illini will begin their season on August 24th as they play their first game of the Dayton Flyer Classic against the Dayton Flyers.
