Illinois Football Recruiting: Fighting Illini Offer Darrin Kirkland Jr.

The Illinois Fighting Illini extended an offer to one of the top inside linebackers from the Class of 2015 in four-star ILB Darrin Kirkland Jr. on Friday. Kirkland Jr. is ranked 134th on the 247Sports 2015 Football Rankings.

So far, the Indianapolis, IN native has received other offers from the Akron Zips, Louisville Cardinals, and Toledo Rockets.

However, the young 2015 linebacker is also interested in the Cincinnati Bearcats, Indiana Hoosiers, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Purdue Boilermakers.

This weekend’s visit was an important one for the future of Illini football because it is still early in Kirkland’s recruitment. Right now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball is predicting that Ohio State will offer at the 2015 linebacker and land his verbal commitment.

Darrin Kirkland Jr. is mainly a pass rusher and can rush from either side of the ball. He shows tremendous speed when getting into the backfield and is a very hard hitter. He also shows pretty good lateral movement.

The four-star recruit is currently ranked 1st in the state of Indiana, 3rd among inside linebackers, and 134th among 2015 high school recruits by 247Sports.
