To no surprise, the Illinois Fighting Illini are unranked in this year’s USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll. During Tim Beckman’s first season as head coach, the Illini went 2-10 and didn’t win a single Big Ten conference game.

Five other Big Ten schools were named to the preseason poll: the Ohio State Buckeyes (No. 2), Michigan Wolverines (No. 17), Nebraska Cornhuskers (No. 18), and Wisconsin Badgers (No. 23).

The other Big Ten team to be outside the Top 25 and receive votes is the Michigan State Spartans (89).

None of Illinois’ three FBS non-conference opponents (Cincinnati, Washington, and Miami (OH)) are ranked in the USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll. All our the Illini’s ranked opponents will most likely come from their Big Ten conference schedule.

Head coach Tim Beckman will begin his second season at the helm of the Fighting Illini. Illinois will start their season at home with a game on Saturday, August 31st against the Southern Illinois Salukis.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are the #1 ranked team as they received 58 out of the 62 first place votes.
