Illinois Football Recruiting: Nick Padla Receives Offer From Fighting Illini

The Illinois Fighting Illini extended an offer to one of the top prospects in the state of Michigan from the Class of 2014 in three-star offensive tackle Nick Padla on Friday. On top of being in the Top 25 among Michigan prospects, Padla has a rating of 81 on 247Sports.

So far, Padla has received other offers from the Cincinnati Bearcats, Akron Zips, and Kent State Golden Flashes.

It seems that the race for Padla is a three team race between Cincinnati, Illinois, and Michigan State (has not offered). However, the 247Sports Crystal Ball predicts the Bearcats to land this 2014 recruit.

Since last August, the Berrien Springs, MI native has visited MSU a total of five times and Cincinnati once. It will be interesting to see how many visits the young OT makes to Champaign now that the Illini have extended him an offer.

Padla would be a huge pickup for the Fighting Illini. The team has already received one commitment from an offensive lineman and could lose four players from the offensive line after this season.

Nick Padla isn’t very big, but has a pretty good frame for any position on the OL. He is a better run blocker than he is a pass blocker. He will also need to develop better feet and a better punch at the next level.

The three-star recruit is currently ranked 23rd in the state of Michigan and 113th among offensive tackles by 247Sports.
