Illinois Football Recruiting: Renell Wren Visits Fighting Illini

On Wednesday, 2014 weak-side defensive end Renell Wren unofficially visited the Illinois Fighting Illini. Wren is a Saint Louis, MO native and is one of the Top 15 recruits from the state of Missouri.

So far, Wren has received offers from the Memphis Tigers, Purdue Boilermakers, Cincinnati Bearcats, Illinois Fighting Illini, Kansas Jayhawks, Missouri Tigers, New Mexico Lobos, Nothern Illinois Huskies, and Toledo Rockets.

However, at this point in time, the three teams that have Wren’s heavy interest are Memphis, Purdue, and Michigan State (have not offered at Wren).

That’s exactly why Wednesday’s visit was an important one for the Fighting Illini. Because Wren is so interested in Purdue and MSU, Illinois needed to impress the young DE in order to sway him towards the Orange and Blue.

Renell Wren is a quick DE that can make life havoc for opposing quarterbacks. He gets into the backfield with speed from the snap and either wraps up the QB or makes the pocket shrink in a heartbeat.

The three-star recruit is currently ranked 14th in the state of Missouri and 43rd among weak-side defensive ends by 247Sports.
