2014 wide receiver Tyrin Stone-Davis is one of the more highly-coveted JUCO recruits from the Class of 2014, and he chose to give the Illinois Fighting Illini his verbal commitment on Tuesday. Stone-Davis is among the top 5 wide receivers from the 2014 JUCO class and is ranked 16th on 247 Sports.
The other teams that offered at Stone-Davis, but did not get his commitment were the San Diego State Aztecs and Texas Tech Red Raiders.
The commitment by Stone-Davis describes the exact kind of recruiting that head coach Tim Beckman talked about Wednesday at the 2013 Big Ten Media Days.
Illinois added five JUCO recruits from the Class of 2013 and is planning on doing that same with the 2014 class to add depth.
According to 247 Sports, Stone-Davis said:
“They have new quarterback Wes Lunt, and I was a fan of him at Oklahoma State. When he went down with injury, I didn’t feel it was right that he lost his job. Now I have the privilege to be his receiver at Illinois.”
This just proves that some JUCO prospects and even high school players might want to come to Illinois in order to play with Wes Lunt.
In 2012, Tyrin Stone-Davis recorded 437 receiving yards on twenty receptions and five touchdowns.
Stone-Davis’ commitment is No. 10 overall for the Fighting Illini and and moves their class to 56th overall in the 247 Sports class rankings.
The four-star recruit is currently ranked 3rd in the state of California, 2nd among wide receivers, and 16th among 2014 JUCO recruits by 247Sports.
