The Illinois Fighting Illini landed a solid inside linebacker from the class of 2014 on Tuesday, as Henry McGrew made the call and committed to the Fighting Illini. McGrew is not only one of the top 75 inside linebackers in the country, but he is also ranked 14th among Kansas recruits.
The other teams that offered at McGrew, but did not get his commitment were the Idaho Vandals, Iowa State Cyclones, Kansas Jayhawks, and Toledo Rockets.
Henry McGrew’s commitment to the Illinois Fighting Illini could be seen as a surprise to many people. This is because many thought he was going to verbally commit to Kansas.
The 247 Sports Crystal Ball had the Jayhawks as a 100% predicted destination for the 2014 Kansas prospect.
Above all, McGrew’s best skills are his size, striking ability, and instincts. However, he will need to work on his lateral movement and how he plays in space. He also isn’t the most athletic athlete from the Class of 2014.
Illinois now has six commitments in the 2014 class.
They are building a nice recruiting, but nothing special. The Illini currently have the tenth best class in the Big Ten and will need to add a few big names before they gain excitement from Illini Nation.
The two-star recruit is currently ranked 14th in the state of Kansas and 73rd among inside linebackers by 247Sports.
