Illinois head coach John Groce is already looking to the future when it comes to recruiting and he is going to his old “home” state of Ohio for talent. On Thursday, coach Groce extended out an offer to 2016 power forward VJ King.
Illinois became the fourth Big Ten team to offer at the 2016 Ohio native.
King has received offers from the Charlotte 49ers, Illinois Fighting Illini, Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones, Ohio State Buckeyes, Wisconsin Badgers, and UNC Greensboro Spartans.
King is currently finishing up his freshman year at St Vincent-St Mary High School and, after looking at his film from the Michigan Invitational, its hard not to compare him to a former St Vincent-St Mary alum.
That alum would be the Miami Heat’s Lebron James. Am I saying King will be the next LBJ? No way! However, he processes the same skills.
VJ King is a 6’5″ PF, but can do it all. He can handle the ball well, shoot of the outside, work around the basket on rebounds, and drive along the baseline to the hoop. He also has a nice one arm pass that looks almost exactly like the one by Lebron James.
This 2016 recruit is currently unranked by 247 Sports, Rivals, and Scouts.
