Illinois Football and Basketball Games to be On Chicago’s 670 The Score

Just over 130 miles separate Chicago and Champaign, however, University of Illinois Director of Athletics Mike Thomas announced on Wednesday that Learfield Sports’ Fighting Illini Sports Properties has acquired WSCR 670 The Score as the newest radio affiliate on the statewide Illini Sports Network.

670 The Score will begin to carry games starting with the 2013-14 athletic season, but will not carry Illinois football games until the 2014 football season. This multi-year agreement between Illinois and 670 The Score contains Illinois football and men’s basketball.

670 The Score will also air Illinois’ coaches’ shows for men’s basketball and football.

Current affiliate WIND-AM 560 will carry Illinois football for the upcoming 2013 football season.

When asked about the agreement with 670 The Score,  Director of Athletics Mike Thomas said,

WSCR 670 The Score has an outstanding reputation as an all-sports station in the Chicago market, which is a great asset in spreading the Fighting Illini brand through the region. We appreciate our relationship with WIND-AM 560 over the past several years, and through the upcoming football season. It’s been a great partnership. We look forward to working with WSCR 670 The Score in any way possible as our agreement begins with the 2013-14 men’s basketball season.”

This multi-year agreement between the University of Illinois and 670 The Score is great for both parties. 670 The Score is a popular radio home for many listeners in the city of Chicago and one of their most popular shows, Boers and Bernstein, generates many listeners every Tuesday through Friday.

For Illinois, this agreement could get their teams more well known. WIND-AM 560 has been a long-time partner with the Fighting Illini, but not many Chicagoians might know about them. With 670 The Score, Illinois gets a name to throw out there and have the backing of 670 The Score to do great things in the future.
