Illinois Softball: Minnesota Series Preview

As inclement weather hits the Minnesota region pushing back the Friday game to a doubleheader on Saturday, the Illinois Fighting Illini are hoping to be a storm to the Minnesota Golden Gophers season.

The Illini, who recently lost a game to Eastern Illinois University, could use a little good news.

Minnesota (21-13, 6-3 in Big Ten play) is a mere three games out of first place in the Big Ten. The Illini (11-22, 1-11 in Big Ten play), however, are on the other end of the spectrum and are trying to right their ship.

Minnesota sophomore Kaitlyn Richardson will be a huge concern for the Illini. She is crushing the ball, hitting .474, with seven home runs and 27 RBI’s.

The pitching for the Gophers will do all they can to shut down the Illini. Sara Moulton will bring her sub 2 ERA out against Illinois as Illinois’ Alex Booker, Jess Perkins, and Remeny Perez will look to turn their season around.

The Illini have got to find a way to get their offense going in this series.

As a team they are only batting .235, while their team ERA is over 4. Head coach Terri Sullivan has got to find some way to get this team to play to the level they want to and are fully capable of playing.

Series Prediction: Illini lose 2 out of 3
