The Illinois Fighting Illini swept the Baylor Bears in their doubleheader on Sunday.
First, Illinois defeated the Bears in their first game, 5-4. It was the first extra inning contest of the season for the Fighting Illini.
After trailing Baylor 3-4 in game one, the Illini tied the game in the top of the seventh. Thomas Lindauer scored the game tying run after he homered down the left field line to begin the inning.
The Illini and the Bears would remain tied until the top of the eleventh. Brandon Hohl scored the go-ahead run after Ryan Nagle singled through the left side. Tyler Jay and Reid Roper combined to finish off the Bears in the bottom of the eleventh.
The winning pitcher for Illinois was Tyler Jay. He came in relief for Drasen Johnson in the bottom of the eighth. He only gave up one hit and struck out four batters. Jay is now is 1-1 on the season.
The losing pitcher for Baylor was Kolt Browder. He pitched for two innings and gave up the winning-run in the top of the eleventh. He is 0-1 on the season.
Then, Illinois defeated the Bears in their second game as well, 6-1. The Illini offense made life a lot easier the second time around as they scored three runs right off the bat in the top of the first.
Illinois led Baylor. 4-0, after two innings.
When it can to scoring runs, Thomas Lindauer and Jordan Parr were the best for Illinois in game two. Lindauer went 2-of-5 from behind the plate and recorded two RBIs. Parr went 2-of-4, scored two runs, and had one RBI.
The winning pitcher for Illinois was John Kravetz. Kravetz was coming off a game where he only pitched 4.1 innings and gave up five runs against Texas-Arlington. On Sunday, he pitched eight full innings and only gave up a single run. Kravetz is now is 2-0 on the season.
The losing pitcher for Baylor was Austin Stone. He only pitched three innings where he gave up four runs, three hits, and walked three batters. He is 0-2 on the season.
The Illinois Fighting Illini are now 10-4 this season.
The Illinois Fighting Illini will play their next game against the Southern Illinois Salukis. They will play the Salukis on March 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th. Game three of the series will be played at Rent One Park, which is the home of the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League.
