As a junior in 2012, Helm caught 44 passes for 810 yards and seventeen touchdowns.
For Illinois, Helm was being recruited by Billy Gonzales (now with Mississippi State). He is also being recruited by Jeff Hecklinski of Michigan, Eric Johnson of Iowa, Mark Elder of Tennessee, and T.J. Woods of Wisconsin.
