Football Recruiting: Paul James III Signs LOI With Illinois

The Illinois Fighting Illini signed their tenth commit on National Signing Day, Paul James III. James is a four-star recruit by ESPN and three-star recruit by Rivals and Scout. He is ranked as the No. 16 defensive end in the nation by 247 Sports and the No. 20 defensive end nationally by Rivals and as the No. 60 player in the state of Florida by 247 Sports.

James committed to Illinois on January 30th, 2013. He officially visited Illinois on January 18th. He chose the Illini over Florida State, Louisville, and West Virginia. It was defensive lines coach Keith Gilmore that earned James’ pledge.

James played his high school ball at Norland High School in Miami, Florida. The Norland Vikings made it to the Class 5A Florida State Playoffs. They lost to Jackson High School, 21-30, in the second round. He was an All-Dade County pick by Miami Herald and was No. 3 recruit from Miami-Dade and Broward Counties by Miami Herald.

Out of all fifteen signees for Illinois, James was the tenth commit to fax in his Letter of Intent. He is one of six defensive lineman to sign with the Illini on NSD.
