The Illinois Fighting Illini signed their eleventh commit on National Signing Day, Darwyn Kelly. Kelly is a three-star recruit by Rivals, ESPN and 247 Sports. He is also ranked as the No. 4 player in Washington, D.C. by 247 Sports and the No. 5 player in D.C. by Rivals and as the No. 66 safety in the nation by 247 Sports.
Kelly committed to Illinois on August 3rd, 2012. He chose the Illini over Colorado, Purdue, Georgia Tech, and Hawaii. It was assitant coach Chris Beatty who earned Kelly’s pledge.
Darwyn Kelly played his high school ball at Woodson High School in Washington DC. The Woodson Warriors made it to the playoffs, but lost to Dunbar High School, 14-28, in the first round. Kelly had 72 tackles as a junior and 30 tackles in a shortened senior season. He earned honorable-mention All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference honors as a junior.
Out of all fifteen signees for Illinois, Kelly was the eleventh commit to fax in his Letter of Intent. He is one of six defensive backs to sign with the Illini on NSD.
