Illinois Football Recruiting: Indiana Offers Peyton Newell

2014 defensive tackle/tight end Peyton Newell received an offer from the Indiana Hoosiers on January 22nd. This now brings his total number of offers to twenty-three.

The other teams that have offered at Newell include: BYU, West Virginia, Kansas, Kansas State, North Carolina State, Nebraska, South Carolina, Arizona State, Baylor, California, Colorado, Duke, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Missouri, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Purdue, TCU, Tulsa, and UCLA.

Out of those twenty-three offers, it is projected that Newell is heavily interested in the Kansas State Wildcats, the Kansas Jayhawks, the North Carolina State Wolfpack, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Newell is a 6’3″, 270 pound “iron man,” but is being recruited as an defensive tackle. He is from Hiawatha, Kansas and plays at Hiawatha High School.

Hiawatha made it to the Kansas State Playoffs (Class 3A) this past season. They lost to Silver Lake, 63-26, in the second round.

Newell recorded 61 tackles, 37 tackles-for-loss, 10 sacks, five forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries as a defensive end. He also recorded 162 yards on 14 receptions and three touchdowns as a tight end.

The four-star recruit is currently ranked 2nd in the state of Kansas, 11th among defensive tackles, and 143rd nationally among 2014 high school recruits by 247Sports.
