2013 offensive guard Mike Smithburg made the choice of where to play his college ball. Smithburg committed to the Kansas Jayhawks on Thursday. He choose the Jayhawks over offers from Akron, Florida International, Illinois, Memphis, Northern Iowa, Old Dominion, South Florida, Western Kentucky, and Western Michigan.
Smithburg is a 6’3″, 300 pound offensive guard from Council Bluffs, Iowa. He played this season with Iowa Western Community College.
This year was a great year for Smithburg and his team. They went a perfect 11-0 overall and 4-0 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference.
Iowa Western defeated Butler 27-7 for the NJCAA National Championship.
On November 20th, Smithburg was named to the Midwest Football Conference First-Team All-Conference.
The three-star recruit is currently ranked 6th in the state of Iowa, 4th among offensive guards, and 149th nationally among junior college recruits by 247Sports.
Mike Smithburg currently has three years or two seasons of eligibility left. This means that he still has a redshirted year available.
Kansas has 17 commitments from the class of 2013.
