Illinois Fighting Illini in the NFL: Week 14

Week 14 of the NFL season concluded with a huge AFC match-up between the Houston Texans and the New England Patriots.

Here is how some of Illinois’ former players fared during this week.

Brandon Lloyd, WR, New England Patriots - Lloyd had a nice game on Monday night. He caught seven passes for 89 yards and one touchdown.

Kelvin Hayden, CB, Chicago Bears – Kelvin Hayden and the Bears’ defense lost another game as they went up against Adrian Peterson and the Minnesota Vikings. Hayden assisted on four tackles and did not have a single solo tackle in the 21-14 loss to the Vikings.

Josh Brent, DT, Dallas Cowboys - Brent was inactive for Sunday’s game against the Bengals. He was charged with intoxication manslaughter after crashing his car early Saturday morning which resulted in the tragic death of practice squad outside linebacker Jerry Brown. Brown and Brent were both roommates at the University of Illinois.

Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis Colts – After recording a season-high six tackles last week, Davis raised the bar again in the win over the Titans. He recorded seven solo tackles, one sack, and assisted on a tackle.

Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers – Mendenhall was inactive for the second straight week against the Chargers.

Corey Liuget, DE, San Diego Chargers – The last time Liuget only had one tackle was in a loss to the Broncos. This weekend against the Steelers, he only had one tackle, but defended two passes.

Arrelious Benn, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Benn did not play against the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend. He is on the IR due to a shoulder injury.

Brandon Moore, OG, New York Jets - Moore and the rest of the Jets offensive line had a nice game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Mark Sanchez was only sacked one time and the Jets scored two rushing touchdowns in the win.

Jeff Cumberland, TE, New York Jets – Mark Sanchez targeted Cumberland twice in the win over the Jaguars, but he only caught one pass. He finished the game with 37 yards on his only reception.

A.J. Jenkins, WR, San Francisco 49ers – Jenkins finally played in a game this season. The 49ers’ coaching staff let him play against Miami with the absence of Mario Manningham. However, he had no targets in the game.

Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints – Thomas ran for 19 yards on five carries with no touchdowns. He also caught seven passes for 57 yards.

Martez Wilson, LB, New Orleans Saints – Wilson only recorded one tackle in the 52-27 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday.

Dave Diehl, OT, New York Giants – Dave Diehl and the rest of the Giants offensive line blocked well in the big win over the New Orleans Saints. Eli Manning was not sacked once and rookie David Wilson ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

Steve Weatherford, P, New York Giants – Weatherford punted the ball three times for 116 yards in the win over the New Orleans Saints.

Mikel Leshoure, RB, Detroit Lions – Mikel Leshoure ran for 49 yards on 14 carries in the Sunday night loss to the Green Bay Packers. He only averaged 3.5 yards per carry and his longest carry was nine yards.

Whitney Mercilus, DE, Houston Texans – Whitney Mercilus recorded two tackles and one sack in the loss to the New England Patriots on Monday night.

Alan Ball, CB, Houston Texans - Ball was inactive on Monday with a foot injury. He did not practice all week, but was listed as questionable.

Tavon Wilson, FS, New England Patriots - Wilson assisted in one tackle in the 42-14 win over the Houston Texans.
