The Illinois Fighting Illini defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 95-82 in their ACC/Big Ten Challenge game. The Illini came out very strong as they had two players combine for a total of 56 points in this game.
Those two players were senior forward Karisma Penn and sophomore guard Ivory Crawford. Penn led the offensive output as she went 9-of-12 from the field and made 12 out of 14 free throw attempts. She finished with 30 points in the game. She also led the Illini on the boards and recorded 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season.
Crawford had a really nice game as well as she scored 26 points and was second on the team in points behind Penn. She went 9-of-14 from the field and 2-of-5 from beyond the arc, but also made all six of her free throw attempts against Wake Forest.
This was Crawford’s second 20+ scoring game on the year.
Despite losing the game, Wake Forest had nice performances out of senior guard Lakevia Boykin and sophomore forward Dearica Hamby.
Hamby recorded a double-double as she finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds. She also had two blocks and two steals. Boykin led the team with 28 total points in the game. She took a total of 22 shots, but only hit ten of them. She also dished out six assists. However, Boykin turned the ball over ten times in the game against Illinois.
The Fighting Illini are now 4-2 on the season.
Their next game will be at home against the Colorado Buffaloes on December 1st. Colorado is currently 5-0 this season. They defeated Wyoming 68-59 in their last game.
