Illinois Fighting Illini in the NFL: Week 12

Week 12 of the NFL season concludes tonight with the Carolina Panthers visiting Philadelphia to take on the Eagles, but the week is over for Illini players currently in the NFL.

Here is how some of Illinois’ former players fared during this week.

Mikel Leshoure, RB, Detroit Lions – Leshoure had the most touches out of the Detroit backfield (12 carries). He ran for 32 yards in the Lions’ Thanksgiving loss to the Houston Texans. However, Leshoure did score Detroit’s first touchdown of the game.

Alan Ball, CB, Houston Texans - Alan Ball did not force the Lions to turn over the ball in their Thanksgiving game, but had a decent game. He recorded seven tackles (six solo) and two pass deflections.

Whitney Mercilus, DE, Houston Texans – Whitney Mercilus recorded a career-high four tackles this past Thanksgiving. He also had two tackles-for-loss against Detroit.

Josh Brent, DT, Dallas Cowboys - Josh Brent recorded a season-high four tackles (three solo) in the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving loss to the Washington Redskins.

Tavon Wilson, FS, New England Patriots - Tavon Wilson did not do much in New England’s dominating win over the Jets on Thanksgiving. He only recorded a single tackle in the game.

Brandon Lloyd, WR, New England Patriots - Lolyd had a very modest game in New England’s 49-19 victory on Thanksgiving. He was targeted a total of six times, but only caught three passes for 26 yards. His longest catch was for twelve yards.

Brandon Moore, OG, New York Jets - Moore and the rest of the Jets offensive line had a rough time blocking in the loss to New England on Thanksgiving. Mark Sanchez was sacked twice and the Jets fumbled the ball four times.

Jeff Cumberland, TE, New York Jets – Cumberland was targeted four times and had four receptions. He finished the game with 58 yards and had one catch go for 39 yards.

Kelvin Hayden, CB, Chicago Bears – Hayden had a nice game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. He recorded four tackles (three solo) and deflected two passes.

Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers – Bluntly, Mendenhall had an absolute terrible game against the Browns on Sunday. He fumbled the ball twice (lost one) and only recorded six yards.

Vontae Davis, CB, Indianapolis Colts – Davis was inactive against the Buffalo Bills with a knee injury.

Arrelious Benn, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Benn did not play against the Buffalo Bills this weekend. He was placed on the IR due to a shoulder injury.

Corey Liuget, DE, San Diego Chargers – Liuget had a very nice game against the Baltimore Ravens this weekend. He recorded six tackles (five solo), one sack, and one tackle-for-loss.

A.J. Jenkins, WR, San Francisco 49ers – Jenkins did not play in the game against the New Orleans Saints even though Kyle Williams and Ted Ginn are both injured.

Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints – Thomas only had one carry against the 49ers which went for zero yards. He also failed to record a catch on his only target of the game.

Martez Wilson, LB, New Orleans Saints – Wilson did not record a single tackle in the loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Dave Diehl, OT, New York Giants – Dave Diehl and the rest of the Giants offensive line blocked nicely in their win over the Packers. Manning was only sacked once in Sunday night’s game.

Steve Weatherford, P, New York Giants – Weatherford punted the ball three times for 135 yards in the win over the Green Bay Packers. His longest punt was 48 yards.
